You need to consider the size of your TV room and the distance between your
couch and TV. Sitting too close to a large screen can distort the picture
just like sitting too far from a small screen.
We suggest sitting back a distance of 2.5 times your TV size.
E.G. If your TV is 42 inches (106cm), you should watch from approx 265cm away.
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PLASMA & LCD?
WHICH IS RIGHT FOR ME?
Plasma TVs contain many gas cells which electrically turn into
plasma to create the picture. Each cell can switch on/off individually to create
faster refresh rates and response times. They usually have a glass/gloss finish,
giving the picture more depth but can also reflect light in bright rooms.
LCD TVs contains liquid crystal and a florescent lamp backlight to create the picture.
The backlight is always on which produces richer colours and a brighter picture.
LCD TVs usually have a matte finish which prevents glare in bright rooms but can
restrict viewing angles.
LED LCD - Uses Liquid Crystal Displays with LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes)
to produce an image on the screen (LCD with a newer/better LED edge-lighting). LED-LCDs are
brighter, use much less energy and create clearer pictures with better control of colour
and contrast.
PROS
Better blacks/darker images
Faster refresh rates & response times
Wider viewing angles
CONS
Glare in bright rooms
On average, uses more electricity than LCD
PROS
Better bright colours
Uses less electricity
No glare (great for rooms with a lot of natural light)
CONS
Less detail in dark images/colours
Can blur fast-moving images
PROS
Most energy efficient TV
Superior contrast ratio i.e. better blacks & colours than LCD
CONS
Generally More Expensive
I WATCH A LOT OF SPORT, DO I NEED A SPECIAL TYPE OF TV?
For fast-paced action movies or watching the footy grand final, it's best to watch
on a TV with a fast response time and refresh rate. If the refresh rate is 100hz,
then the TV is digitally refreshing 100 frames per second. This reduces lag/blurring
around quick moving images. Plasma TVs are usuallly recommended for
sport-lovers as it's a faster technology bringing the image to the screen.
WHICH IS BETTER FOR VIDEO GAMES?
LCDs bright pictures and rich colours make it ideal for gaming and creating
a sureal atmosphere.
WHAT DOES FULL HD MEAN? HOW IS THAT DIFFERENT FROM HD?
Full HD TVs have approx twice the number of pixels (dots on the screen) as HD TVs.
More pixels mean more detail and a clearer picture.
Full HD TVs have a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. This is the number is pixels
on the screen. HD screens usually have a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels.
WHAT IS BLU-RAY???
Blu-ray is the next generation of DVD. A blu ray disc plays your favourite movie in
Full HD. It can hold up to 50GB of information as opposed to 4.7GB on a DVD. This means far superior picture & sound quality. Blu-ray discs can only be played in blu-ray players. BUT THIS DOESN'T MEAN YOUR DVD COLLECTION IS USELESS! Blu-ray players can play DVDs and even upscale the picture quality so they look their best on your Full HD TV.
